Stakes, round posts and posts: wood that goes in the ground
This range covers all wood intended for ground contact: agricultural fencing stakes, landscaping round posts, structural posts. Two species families depending on site requirements: class 4 autoclave-treated pine, protected to the core for burial, and acacia (robinia), naturally rot-resistant: 20 to 25 years in the ground without any treatment (see our article service life of an acacia stake).
The range

Peeled stakes – the economical agricultural stake in autoclave pine
Polygonal acacia stakes – demanding livestock fencing, vineyards, orchards
Acacia stakes and half-stakes – paling fence tensioning, coastal projects
Round posts and half-logs – borders, earth retention, landscaping
Planed posts – frames for pergolas, carports and shelters
Electricity and telephone poles – impregnated long lengths

Autoclave or acacia?
Class 4 autoclave pine is the economical standard for a buried stake: pressure treatment impregnates the wood deeply. Acacia costs more to buy but doubles or triples the service life in the ground: it offers the best cost per year of service on difficult sites (wet soils, seaside, intensive livestock farming). To understand the treatment, read class 4 autoclave-treated Polish pine.

Sizing correctly: the one-third rule
A stable stake has about one third of its length in the ground: a 1.20 m fence is installed with a 1.80 m stake. Spacing depends on use: 3 to 4 m for a standard agricultural fence, closer for equestrian paddocks and windy areas, 2 to 3 m to tension a paling fence. On loose or wet ground, choose the larger diameter and pay attention to drainage rather than setting in solid concrete, which holds moisture against the wood.

Which stake for which project?
Cattle farming and agricultural fencing: autoclave peeled stakes, the best price per linear metre. Equestrian paddocks and orchards: polygonal stakes or acacia half-stakes, which withstand tension and rubbing. Coast, dunes and sensitive natural areas: untreated acacia, accepted where treated wood is sometimes prohibited. Landscaping: round posts and half-logs for borders and earth retention, planed posts for structures.

Frequently asked questions

What is the service life of a stake in the ground?
Allow 10 to 15 years for class 4 autoclave pine (treatment guaranteed for 10 years) and 20 to 25 years for acacia, without any treatment.

Should stakes be set in concrete?
Avoid solid concrete, which holds moisture at ground level: a bed of draining gravel significantly extends the life of the wood.
